Submission of Photos

In a Nutshell

Email Grrafix (grr@grrafix.com) your photos (or other artwork, such as posters or paintings) so they can be uploaded on Grrafix. Grrafix wants photos that document animal rights / animal liberation and are photographically or artistically stimulating. Your photos must be your personal work, ie their copyright is yours so that you have the legal right to contribute them. If you wish you may stipulate through a Creative Commons licence how people use your photos. By contributing photos to Grrafix you confirm that you have read and agreed to Grrafix's Terms of Use.

Technical Requirements

  1. Photos should be at least 500 pixels longest side. This is after cropping any irrelevant excess space around the main subject of the image. Please do not increase the dimension of small photos by interpolating extra pixels; the result may look poor and if accepted by Grrafix now may be deleted later.

  2. Save photos in RGB as JPG of high quality (about 90 percent) and save solid colour illustrations and line art in RGB as PNG or GIF.

  3. Let us know whether you have model releases or property releases for any photos showing people who can be identified as particular individuals or showing copyright property. Do not send us releases but keep them safe should a photo-hunter need them (no release might mean someone cannot use your photo).

Keywording Photos

Supply each photo with keywords or 'tags'. Separate each keyword or key phrase with a semicolon. Keywords are necessary for photo-hunters to find the photos they are looking for. See photos in our Animal Liberation Gallery for examples of keywords. Grrafix will supply them if you do not but you know your photos best.

Tips for Keywording:
  1. Aim for ten to twenty keywords per photo.

  2. Think of the words someone might use to describe your photo when searching for it.

  3. Separate each keyword or key phrase with a semicolon.

  4. Use lower case (capitals are more difficult to read).

  5. Add your name as a keyword if you want people to find other photos you have on Grrafix.

  6. Use only relevant words and phrases. Wrong keywords (like bull when your photo is a cow) or irrelevant keywords (like fantastic) make a photo-searcher less likely to find your photo.

  7. Do not repeat the same keyword for a specific photo, repetitions add nothing (wrong: horse; horse; horse; OK: carthorse; young horse; Asian horse).

  8. Use singular and plural and use either American or British English.

  9. Check the spelling because misspelled wods ave noo effect.

Photo Description

Write a description for each photo for the better appreciation by viewers, up to about 100 words. You could explain a photo's circumstances: its where, when and how; what prompted you to take it; what is happening in the photo and what happened afterwards; what your mood and impressions were when you took the photo. Grrafix will do this if you do not, but you know the circumstances of your photos. Add camera technical details if you like, such as shutter speed and ISO.
